Rovaniemi Airport now has separate areas for meeting arrivals and for taxis. The contract taxis are Taksi Rovaniemi, Lähitaksi Rovaniemi and Menevä.
Finavia has finished the ground traffic works it began in spring 2025. Three taxi companies hold contracts with the airport, and each has its own platform in front of the terminal.
Finavia has completed the reorganisation of ground traffic and the expansion of parking at Rovaniemi Airport. The new areas opened in stages, and according to Finavia all of the new arrangements are now in use. Minor finishing work will continue over the coming weeks.
Johan Juujärvi, Finavia's airport manager in Rovaniemi, says the work was spread over two years so that it would stay out of the busiest part of the winter travel season.
Departing passengers are dropped off in their own area next to the main entrance, which was built in 2025 when the departures hall was extended. This year's changes added separate areas for people meeting arriving passengers and for taxis. Finavia says the split keeps traffic moving and makes the forecourt safer for pedestrians.
If you are collecting someone by car, Finavia recommends the car parks, where the first 20 minutes are free.
A new car park of about 4,000 square metres in front of the airport has room for 130 cars on longer stays. It is meant mainly for passengers who drive to the airport themselves. Coaches got a separate area with spaces for 16 buses. In total, the space for private cars, buses and taxis has nearly doubled, to about 19,000 square metres.
Taxis: three contract companies, free choice
Finavia put the airport's taxi service out to tender and signed contracts with Taksi Rovaniemi, Lähitaksi Rovaniemi and Menevä. The contract taxis wait in their own area in front of the terminal, and other taxi companies in theirs. Each contract company has its own platform:
Passengers are still free to choose any taxi company, and taxis without a contract can still drop off and pick up passengers at the airport. Taxis wait at the stand when flights are due, and you can also book one in advance. According to Finavia, the tender is meant to keep taxis available both in the busiest months and in the quiet summer months.
Rovaniemi Airport currently has 8 car rental desks, all inside the terminal. In future the rental companies will operate from the car park at the end of the passenger terminal. For now the desks are still inside, so check the pickup point in your booking confirmation.
