Kittilä transport guide: public transport, taxis, airport links, onward routes and what to book. Updated 2026.
Gateway to Levi ski resort. Kittilä Airport (KTT) is one of Finland's busiest in winter thanks to charter flights from across Europe.
Tunturilinjat, Eskelisen and Liikenne Rundgren (airport and regional buses)
Airport → Levi from about €6 (Eskelisen) or €15 (Tunturilinjat airport bus) (as of 2026)
In winter a Ski Bus loops Levi village: €4 per day, or €3 with a lift pass.
Airport bus to Ylläs (Liikenne Rundgren)
Flight: Kittilä (KTT), direct from London, Paris, Frankfurt, Helsinki in winter
Car: about 150 km north-west of Rovaniemi on road 79
Finnair has several daily flights from Helsinki, and in winter KTT also has flights from other European cities. Or take the VR night train to Kolari and a connecting bus (about 1 h 15 to Levi). See /route/helsinki-kittila.
Kittilä Airport (KTT) is 5 km from Kittilä village, 15 km from Levi village and 35 km from Ylläsjärvi. Airport buses are timed to the flights: to Levi with Tunturilinjat (€15) or Eskelisen line buses (from about €6), 15 to 24 min; to Ylläs with Liikenne Rundgren. Outside the main season and in summer they run on demand and must be booked ahead.
Small administrative centre, basic services, quiet, 5 km from the airport. Most visitors don't stay here, they pass through to Levi or Ylläs.
15 km north of the airport by road. The big ski resort, where most KTT visitors stay. Full guide: /city/levi.
About 35 km from the airport (to Ylläsjärvi). Less busy than Levi, the purist's alternative. Full guide: /city/yllas.
Further north-west on the E8, the under-rated middle option with family resorts. Finavia lists bus connections from KTT to Muonio, Olos, Jeris, Pallas and Kilpisjärvi.
Winter flight, afternoon arrival, peak season
In winter, flights from Helsinki and several European cities land at KTT. The airport buses are timed to the flights: to Levi with Tunturilinjat (€15) or Eskelisen line buses (from about €6), 15 to 24 minutes to the village. If your hotel is in central Levi and you bought the lift pass online, you can be on a floodlit slope the same afternoon.
The early scheduled Finnair flight, the smarter weekday option
Finnair's early-morning flight from Helsinki is the one that gets you on Levi's slopes in time for fresh corduroy at lift opening. The airport bus is timed to the flight, and hotels can usually hold your luggage until check-in.
The VR night train Helsinki → Kolari leaves at 20:24 and arrives at 10:55 the next morning (autumn 2026 timetable), at the end of the line. From Kolari a connecting bus takes about 1 h 15 to Levi (80 km); the Liikenne Rundgren train bus runs to Äkäslompolo and Ylläsjärvi (€24). Night-train cabins start from €49 (vr.fi). Slower than flying, but you arrive rested with all your skis and you don't see an airport.
Levi = nightlife, big hotels, the World Cup slalom slope, après-ski bars. Ylläs = quiet villages, a higher fell (719 m vs Levi's 531 m) with Finland's longest slopes, no big nightclub scene. If you're a couple without kids looking for quiet, Ylläs is usually the better choice. If you're a family with teenagers or you want to ski + dance, pick Levi. Both have airport buses from KTT: Tunturilinjat or Eskelisen to Levi, Liikenne Rundgren to Ylläs.
Charter packages are tied to fixed weeks and bundled luggage rules, with little flexibility. Scheduled flights usually cost more but can be changed. If your dates are flexible, compare both before you book.
Why does my booking site say "fly to Rovaniemi instead"?
Because Rovaniemi has more flights. But from Rovaniemi it is about 2 h 20 by bus to Levi (from about €28) and about 4 h 30 to Ylläs on a winter-only bus. If you're going to Levi or Ylläs, flying straight to KTT usually saves you half a day.
Winter is KTT's busy season. Outside the main season and in summer the airport buses to Levi and Ylläs run on demand and must be booked ahead. Flight and Levi hotel prices peak around Christmas and in the February to March holiday weeks, so book those dates early.

Book Levi hotels for Christmas week early, and compare the hotel's own site with the booking platforms before you pay.
