How to get from Rovaniemi airport (RVN) to Rovaniemi city centre and the other destinations it serves: shuttle, taxi and rental car options for 2026.
Rovaniemi Airport (RVN), one of Finland's busiest airports, sits right next to Santa Claus Village, 10 km north of Rovaniemi city. Finnair flies from Helsinki year-round, and in winter Ryanair, easyJet and many other airlines and charters add direct flights from across Europe, London, Paris, Berlin and Amsterdam among them. The Airport Express bus, taxis, rental cars and hotel transfers all leave from the terminal; Linkkari city buses do not serve the airport.
From about €28, ~2 h 20 (from Rovaniemi)
Not practical, take the bus or rent a car
A private airport bus (airportbus.fi), not a Linkkari city line. Its timetable for 10 August to 18 October 2026 has nine departures a day from the airport, the first at 07:55 and the last at 17:35; the 10:45, 13:35 and 17:35 departures wait for an arriving flight. The bus calls at Santa Claus Village on its way to the airport, so from the terminal it goes to the centre first. In winter the red Santa's Express also loops the railway station, city centre, Santa Park, Santa Claus Village and the airport. Buy a ticket online or pay by card on board; cash is not accepted.
Three taxi platforms at the terminal: Taksi Rovaniemi (0600 14000), Lähitaksi Rovaniemi (0100 7300) and Menevä (0800 02120). You can also pre-book.
Twelve companies serve the airport, including Avis, Europcar, Hertz and Sixt; some open only with a prior reservation (Finavia). Best choice if continuing to Levi or Saariselkä.
Buses to Levi, Saariselkä and, in winter, Ylläs run from Rovaniemi (see matkahuolto.fi and check whether your departure stops at the airport). A direct Pyhä–Luosto bus leaves from the airport, four times a day in winter and twice in summer (pyha.fi).
How do I get from Rovaniemi airport to the city?
Take the Airport Express bus (airportbus.fi; €8, online or by card on board, no cash). Until 18 October 2026 it leaves the airport nine times a day, the last at 17:35; for a later flight, take a taxi from the three taxi platforms. Car rental at the terminal.
Is Santa Claus Village at Rovaniemi airport?
Right next to it, about 2 km away. From the terminal a short taxi ride is quickest: the Airport Express calls at the village only on its way to the airport, and in winter Santa's Express stops there too. You can check in a bag at the hotel and visit Santa's Village in one afternoon.
Can I get from Rovaniemi airport to Levi directly?
Long-distance buses to Levi take about 2 h 20 and cost from about €28, but most leave from Rovaniemi, so check on matkahuolto.fi whether your departure stops at the airport.
Is there a train station at Rovaniemi airport?
No. The VR railway station is in Rovaniemi, about 10 km south, and the Airport Express bus stops there.
Yes, twelve companies serve the airport, including Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz and Sixt. Some open only with a prior reservation.
Linkkari city buses do not serve the airport. The airport bus is the private Airport Express (airportbus.fi), which also stops at Santa Claus Village and the railway station.
Santa Claus Village is about 2 km from the terminal, a few minutes by taxi. The Airport Express calls there only on its way to the airport.
Rovaniemi also has a railway station, so you can land, drop your bag, take the Airport Express to the station and catch the night train south the same evening.
In winter several flights can land close together, so the airport bus and the taxi queue fill up; Taksi Rovaniemi, Lähitaksi and Menevä each have a platform at the terminal.
Some hotels in Rovaniemi and Santa Claus Village arrange airport transfers, so check your booking.
